I am a big fan of simple color patterns. Hence, the icey blue, grey and white with only a hint of orangish brown in the carrot nose. I figured this mono-chromatic scheme goes well with a snowman character.
Why is he/she/it falling? Who knows? Maybe I have been in a free-fall lately due to my recent move. In fact, these past few months have been a test of wit, emotion and determination.
On the right you will see the original sketch and on the left is my first piece of sketch-to-illustrator art. This was kind of a trial run, but I am still happy with the outcome.
PS: I owe the snowman inspiration to the Sunday comics.
I really enjoy the simplicity of these pieces. The illustrator version is so clean and I think that really enhances the dynamics of the overall drawing.
ReplyDeleteI also can really appreciate the addition of white circles that break the outline of the snowman figure.
Request: I would like to see a close-up of the sunrise in the snowman's mouth. What type of alternate universe exists in this character's mouth? One that has it's own sun? Is it simply a smaller version of the larger world that contains it? I am curious.
Good question. Maybe it is the type of alternate universe where the best artists are the ones who fall fastest from cliffs? If so, I'd give the snowman an "its trite, but in an affluent paradoxical kind of way" out of 10.
